Amsterdam was the first stop on our 2016 RTW tour–and on January 1, no less. Having never been, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but knew we didn’t have a ton of time to enjoy it. The January weather _mostly_ cooperated, but we did spend a good portion wandering around the city in the rain. I’d definitely like to go back when the weather is warmer.
Wagamama: Since it’s not local, we tend to hit up the Wagamama for delicious ramen, great for a cold day.
Manneken Pis: I realize this makes no sense (a Belgian french fry house?) but they looked good. They were good.
Generally, we could have done better on food, but we were enjoying some jetlag and rain and being lazy.
Rijksmuseum: Go see the classic Old Masters and Rembrant’s Night Watch
Anne Frank House/Museum: Although we waited nearly 2 hours in line on a frigid afternoon (apparently, you can plan ahead, but what short attention span traveler does that??) it was well worth the wait. A Powerful experience.
Red Light District: Because it’s an interesting study in humanity.
Wander the canals–there are a ton of cute shops that I’m sure are great when the weather is warm.
Hotel NH Collection Barbizon Palace: It sounds nicer than it was, but it was perfectly located near the train station and the center of town. You can do better.
